Q:
What is the American Dream?
A:

That’s a hard question with a lot of answers! People have different ideas about what the American Dream means, and it’s changed over time too. Early in the country’s history, moving to America was the great dream of millions of immigrants from around the world. The United States was new and had a government made by the people, not by royalty. People hoped they could get good jobs and own land in America and have a say in how things were run. In more recent times, Martin Luther King Jr. talked about the American Dream too. He said the dream came from the Declaration of Independence and meant equality for all. Ask your family and friends, and you may find different types of American Dreams.
